  FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

Our third issue is premised on ‘Public Sector Management – are banks involved?’ as our theme. Ideally, we do not intend to just start the car, vam-vam-voom it and give you a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. Rather, we would like to navigate with you from the watershed down the stream to the sea. This will entail going through cataracts, deep waters and meanders – all these will make reading not only informative but also real fun.

In this edition, various schools of thought are shared on issues that affect our social and economic lives and how banks are knitted in the public sector management equation. As bankers we are mindful of the fact that it takes the synergetic efforts of both the private and public sectors to transform the economic face of a nation.

As such, it is our deeprooted desire to remain worthwhile partners with government in development and, as summed up by the chairman, ‘we want to be measured by what we can do for our nation’. As is our tradition, effort has been made to incorporate articles with a range of aroma. There are articles on budgeting, debt cancellation, trade fair, interest rates and technological advancements in banking, to sample but some. We have also carried out an interview with our stakeholders on the blossoming of the Institute of Bankers in Malawi: find out what they say.

In the next issue we intend to include a feed back corner where you will be asked to make comments on articles that have tickled you. General analyses and view points are also encouraged.

Finally, we are indebted to the management of all commercial banks and discount houses for their unwavering support. We are equally thankful to our advertisers who have again supported this issue. We will do everything possible to add value to your kind gesture by providing the best. To our valued readers, thank you for choosing Malawi Banker – enjoy reading it.
