Bankers join continental group
20/September/2011
The Institute of Bankers (IOB) Malawi has joined the Alliance of African Institutes of Bankers, a continental body aimed at promoting banking standards.
This was disclosed by IOB Malawi vice president Kashnath Chatuverdi in Blantyre during the graduation ceremony of students who underwent various courses at the institute.
Chatuverdi said the African grouping looks at ensuring quality of work which bankers' institutes offer within the continent.
"Where one is staggering, the alliance offers help. At the moment the alliance is trying to harmonise the syllabi so that one country's qualification can be recognised by the other.
"Alliance of African Institutes of Bankers has also organised an independent body outside the continent to audit all examinations before they are written and IOB Malawi would like to teach perfection as we try to serve the nation better," said Chatuverdi.
IOB Malawi is affiliated to the University of Malawi (Unima).
Unima Vice Chancellor Emmanuel Fabiano said during the graduation ceremony that students studying under IOB Malawi are equipped with diverse skills ranging from credit management to trust and financial management.
IOB offers its courses under Unima's Development Centre. During the ceremony, 50 learners graduated with various qualifications.
